Vers un Québec sans faim: Panel and Public Debate

Presented as part of our exhibition Vers un Québec sans faim!, you are invited to attend a panel discussion of experts on food systems and rights followed by an electoral debate between candidates representing major parties in the upcoming provincial election.

Jessica Dufresne

Jessica Dufresne holds a Doctorate in Law from the University of Ottawa and has been campaigning for many years for the recognition of the right to food and nutrition in Quebec. A lecturer, researcher and community worker, Dufresne’s work is driven by a dual expertise which is both academic and practical. Her main research focus is on the transition of food systems, and understands the notion of food as a right as being the key to achieve positive transformation.

Alexandra Otis

Alexandra Otis is a registered dietitian (Dt.P.) and holds a master’s degree in public health with a specialization in global health from the School of Public Health at the University of Montreal (M.Sc., ESPUM). A doctoral candidate in public health (with a focus on global health), her research interests include social justice, health equity, migration, and food security.

Jean-Philippe Laperrière

Doctor of Sociology (UQAM) Jean-Philippe Laperrière is recognized as an expert in the field of food security. He has been a lecturer in the Department of Urban and Tourism Studies at UQAM, and is currently the Executive Director of the Table de concertation sur la faim et le développement social du Montréal métropolitain (The Council Table on Hunger and Social Development of Metropolitan Montréal).

Michel R. Saint-Pierre

Michel R. Saint-Pierre is an agronomist. Former deputy minister of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food and co-president of the Jean-Garon Institute, he has played a key role in the development of Quebec agricultural institutions.
