Learning and exploring at the Écomusée!

A journey back to industrial Montreal

Discover the history of Centre-Sud, a former working-class neighbourhood, and immerse yourself in the heart of industrial Montreal of yesteryear!

The Écomusée welcomes groups of all school levels (elementary, high school, college, university, francization), as well as community organizations and groups with disabilities or special needs.

Écomusée Activities

The permanent exhibition, All the Livelong Day! The Joys and Sorrows of Life in a Working-Class Neighbourhood, highlights the daily life of working-class families of yesteryear, as well as the changing world of labour and its effects on the population.

Understanding the history of the Écomusée’s location, a former public bathhouse, also provides insight into hygiene conditions in working-class neighbourhoods.

While touring the permanent exhibition, All the Livelong Day! The Joys and Sorrows of Life in a Working-Class Neighbourhood, students explore the history of labour and reflect on the social issues in their community.
