A new permanent exhibition at the Écomusée du fier monde

An improved visitor experience and enhanced content

All the Livelong Day ! The Joys and Sorrows of life in a Working-Class Neighbourhood paints a portrait of Montreal’s Centre-Sud from the second half of the 19th century onwards, tracing its development through the pivotal moments of industrialization, deindustrialization, and community movements. The revamped exhibition offers an enriched visitor experience thanks to the addition of a number of items from the museum’s collection, testimonials, hands-on content and works of art (Christine Sioui-Wawanoloath, Anne-Marie Ouellet). For optimum accessibility, the texts, now bilingual (French and English), are also available in Quebec Sign Language (LSQ) and American Sign Language (ASL).

A new eco-friendly design

The scenography and design were conceived to highlight the architectural setting of the Généreux bathhouse, home to the Écomusée du fier monde since 1996. Together with the non-profit organisation Écoscéno, the design team undertook to reduce the environmental impact of the exhibition by implementing various eco-design strategies, including upcycling furniture, sourcing sustainable materials and investing in local expertise. In total, 92.6% of the materials in the exhibition come from reuse, the museum’s own inventory or sustainable purchasing.
