The Écomusée du fier monde benefit auction – already in its 15th edition – has become an indispensable event over the years. Another impressive collection ensures that this year is no exception. Make the most of this opportunity to acquire works of renowned artists such as Marc Séguin, Jaques Hurtubise, Marcelle Ferron, Jean Paul Riopelle and Armand Vaillancourt. It’s also the perfect occasion to discover the works of promising up-an-coming artists such as Yannick De Serre, Dominique Desbiens, Christian Dunberry, Charlotte Fauteux, and Suzanne Lafrance. The works are on display in the exhibition Variations sur l’art d’ici from April 27 to May 8. Entry is free. The catalogue can also be consulted online: ecomusee.qc.ca. All that’s left is to make your choice!
Numerous promising artists as well as those of national and international renown have exhibited their work over the years. In 15 years, 990 works have been displayed during the auctions! The annual event has also helped raise $483 000, an amount which allows the Écomusée du fier monde to fulfil its mandate of being both a history and community museum. The Écomusée is situated in the former Généreux public bath, a splendid example of 1920’s architecture. For more than 30 years, the museum has offered a unique program that invites the public to explore the history of labor and reflect on social topics that speak to our surroundings. Profits from the auction will once again benefit both the Écomusée and the artists. True to its mission, the Écomusée will share profits from the sale of two of the works with neighbourhood organizations: the work of Jean Paul Riopelle will benefit Mères avec pouvoir and that of Jacques Hurtubise will benefit the Auberge du cœur Le Tournant.
